Bogumiła Krysiak

A mother, and a student of the sky and ancient measures. This site is a tribute from her four daughters — and the fulfilment of a dream she did not live to see.

A daughter’s foreword

Mum dreamed of a book in Polish and English. She did not live to see it published. I share these pages with readers to fulfil her dream and preserve the work to which she gave her time.

Bogumiła Krysiak is the author of this book. To me, she is above all my mum. She raised her children on her own, looked after us day by day and cared for her own mother for many years. She was hardworking, cheerful and attentive to other people’s needs.

She was interested in the Bible, history, archaeology, astronomy and ancient units of measurement. She read, compared and calculated. A telescope given to her by one of her daughters deepened her fascination with the stars and the Moon. She wrote of her wonder at Jehovah’s creation.

I offer this book with love and gratitude. Mum, this book is for you.

— Noemi Krysiak-Wolańska

What she studied

She looked for connections between distant places, ancient accounts and the movements of the sky.

The Bible

Faith was an important part of her life and her search.

Astronomy

She watched the stars and the Moon through a telescope from her daughter.

Archaeology

Stone circles: Gilgal Refaim, Avebury, Stonehenge.

Ancient measures

The cubit, the foot and the reckoning of time. She posted on the History of Metrology forum as “rodz.akitu”.

To our mum, Bogumiła Krysiak. From her four loving daughters and their families.
